An impressive and highly decorative pair of antique French ecclesiastical-style brass altar candelabra, sourced in Rouen, Normandy.
Believed to date from the late 19th or early 20th century, these striking five-light candelabra feature an unusual graduated arrangement of candleholders, creating an elegant stepped silhouette.
Beautifully ornamented with scrolling foliate branches, Gothic-inspired quatrefoil motifs, pierced floral borders and scalloped candle cups, the pair displays the intricate decorative metalwork associated with French ecclesiastical furnishings.
Possibly originally intended for placement on either side of a church altar, they would make a magnificent decorative statement in a period interior, particularly displayed on a mantelpiece, console table or sideboard.
The brass-toned finish has developed a wonderful aged patina, enhancing their antique character.
