A breathtaking antique Javanese bridal headdress in the traditional bunga goyang style – literally “shaking flowers” – designed to shimmer and come alive with every movement.

This extraordinary piece features a hand-cut metal crown base adorned with sparkling paste stones, from which rise multiple coiled stems, each topped with delicately formed flowers and buds. These articulated elements tremble gently as the wearer moves, catching the light in the most enchanting way – a hallmark of Indonesian ceremonial adornment.

Worn historically in Javanese bridal dress and court performance, pieces such as this were created to enhance presence, grace and theatre. The effect is mesmerising – a living crown of flowers that dance with the body.

The metal has developed a rich, time-softened patina, and the stones show subtle variation and age, all adding to its authenticity and charm. This is not modern costume jewellery, but a beautifully constructed early piece with real cultural and decorative significance.

A rare and evocative object – equally suited to collectors of ethnographic jewellery, costume and theatre, or as a striking display piece.
