A wonderfully charming original Benbros Qualitoys Royal Coronation Coach, produced in England to commemorate the Coronation of Queen Elizabeth II in 1953.
This delightful miniature die-cast model features the gold-painted Royal State Coach, with the raised ER royal cypher cast into the coach doors, together with its complete team of eight white horses and four mounted outriders.
The horses are cast together with the central shaft and retain their original red, white, gold and black painted decoration. The shaft is clearly marked “Made in England.”
The model was manufactured in two sections, with the complete horse team attaching to the front of the coach.
Despite its tiny size and more than 70 years of age, the model remains wonderfully complete. All eight horses are present and retain their legs, together with all four mounted outriders.
There is noticeable age-related paint loss, rubbing and surface wear throughout, particularly to the horses and gold coach. This is clearly shown in the photographs and is entirely consistent with a little toy that has survived since the Coronation era. The wear gives it enormous character while the completeness of the model makes it particularly appealing for display.
A lovely piece of Queen Elizabeth II Coronation memorabilia and British post-war toy history, and a charming survivor from one of the defining events of the 20th-century British monarchy.
